The story behind Isle of Skye Sea Salt Company
Founded in 2011 as the first producer in the UK to exclusively use solar evaporation – natural evaporation by sun and wind. The seawater from Loch Snizort is slowly evaporated in shallow ponds within polytunnels. After 4 to 8 weeks, pure, crunchy salt crystals full of minerals and flavor are formed. No chemical processes, no heating – just the power of nature.

Sustainable and artisanal
The production is fully circular: wastewater goes back to the sea, packaging is recyclable, and only local resources are used. This approach has earned recognition from Slow Food’s Ark of Taste and multiple Great Taste Awards.

New energy, same ethos
In 2023, Elisa Rodière and Antoine Bouré – a young French couple with a passion for Skye and gastronomy – took over the company. They expanded the range with new flavor variants, without compromising the original, sustainable ethos.
