The Jacobite Rising in Scotland in 1745 was a major turning point in British history when thousands of Highlanders lost their lives defending the House of Stuart and an independent Scotland. During the 18th century, Jacobite supporters would meet in secret to honour their (now defeated) 'Bonnie Prince Charlie', toasting their 'king across the water' with their Jacobite whisky glasses.
