Create your own rum-like drink with our wood chips from used rum barrels. Add a clear spirit like vodka to the chips and let them slowly release their rich flavor and color, just as if your drink were aging in a real rum barrel! Enjoy the authentic depth and character of barrel-aged rum, without the hassle of real aging.
1. Add Alcohol
Start by adding your favorite clear liquor, such as vodka or gin. Make sure the liquor is at least 30% alcohol. Don’t add rum, as it will have less of an effect. Note the bottling date and the type of liquor you’re using on the label. If possible, try to use leftover liquor you have at home.
2. The ripening process
After filling your bottle, let it mature in a cool and dark place. The wood chips will slowly release their rum flavor and warm color. Don't hesitate to taste it every now and then to experience how the flavors develop. This process takes about eight weeks, but you can also discover what happens if you let it mature longer.
3. Serve your own Rum
After eight weeks, it's time to serve your own rum. Filter or carefully pour the liquor before drinking. Make sure no wood chips end up in your glass. Never eat the wood chips either.
4. Cheers!
Enjoy, and drink responsibly!
